The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce is committed to a strong educational system in our region, beginning with early childhood initiatives and continuing through post-secondary.  We believe that education is the foundation to economic growth and prosperity for all citizens and for our region.

The Chamber, operating through its foundation, offers several education programs:

Educator of the Year Awards:

The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber Foundation recognizes an annual “Educator of the Year” from each of the schools in Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Caswell County, NC. The selection process, in part, addresses the teachers’ creativity and innovation in the classroom.

Each school submits their “Educator of the Year” and the Chamber Foundation’s selection committee selects three overall winners for the region who receive a cash prize of $2,500 each which can be applied toward personal and/or professional development of their choice.

All of the Educator of the Year winners are recognized at the Chamber’s annual awards dinner where the three overall winners are announced.

Nominations are solicited for the Educator of the Year awards in the February/March timeframe. The winners are recognized in early May.

Teacher Creativity Grants:

The Chamber Foundation awards more than $100,000 each year for classroom grants to educators in Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Caswell County (NC). The grants emphasize creative and innovative projects for the K-12 classroom.

Grants are typically solicited in the April - June timeframe with selections made and awarded in August-September.

Career Expo:

The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce is a proud sponsor and partner of Career ChoICE, the SoVa Career Expo for students in grades 7 and 9.  Modeled after Southwest Alabama's Worlds of Opportunity, Career ChoICE exposes approximately 4,000 students to hands-on activities by inspirational adults who ignite students' imaginations to unlimited career opportunities in Southern Virginia.

Career ChoICE showcases existing job opportunities so that students will have an option to stay in the region, based on an informed career decision with a clear understanding on:

  • Skills needed
  • Education levels required
  • Salaries they can expect

This event is an intentional effort to build a pipeline of students in strategic sectors that are aligned with economic development interests.
