Organizational Objective: The Danville Science Center Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Danville Science Center, which is a state agency. Funding for DSC comes in part from the state, in part through earned revenue (admissions/ticket sales), and in part from the Foundation. The Foundation’s role is to secure the financial support necessary to enable the Danville Science Center to fulfill its mission to inspire our visitors through science. This lean operation requires a fundraising program that provides the greatest return on staff and volunteer time and effort. Fundraising strategies must combine focus on building sustainable sources of operating support while securing major gifts necessary to achieve the vision that will elevate and maintain the institution’s brand equity in the community. The goal is to establish a sustainable system(s) to generate operating support while coordinating, stewarding, and directing board member’s time to personally manage relationships with key prospects.
Purpose of Position: Driven by a comprehensive fundraising strategy that prioritizes growth in sustainable sources of general operating support while seeking major gifts for special needs, the Chief Fundraising Officer develops and executes a plan that includes Annual Fund, Corporate sponsorships and membership, restricted gift requests (grants), Board management and organizational development.
Key Skills Competencies required to successfully perform the work: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and persuasive ability; the ability to plan and implement strategic goals and special projects; ability to set and manage a budget; the ability to accurately and appropriately use Excel (or comparable equivalent) and financial accounting software; the ability to successfully work with people from all socioeconomic backgrounds in a dynamic business environment; the ability to be honest and reliable and to communicate effectively and efficiently with staff.
Qualifications: Requires a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in business management, finance or a related field. An MBA and Non-Profit management experience is preferred, but not required. Successful and proven professional fundraising experience is a must. Professional fundraising experience should include donor cultivation, grant writing and marketing.

Salary Range: Commiserate with experience and qualifications
