The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce and The Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness (CCECC) are pleased to announce the highly successful Junior Leadership Southside program will transition to the CCECC in 2016. The working partnership between the CCECC and the Chamber is designed to lead the program into its next phase of growth with the CCECC assuming operation of the program.

Junior Leadership Southside was brought to fruition as a project of the 2007-2008 class of Leadership Southside. The Chamber’s Board of Directors agreed to house and coordinate the program during its initial phases of growth. The Chamber has led the program, with the support of a planning committee, for seven program years and has seen the program grow and prosper each year.

“We are thrilled that Junior Leadership Southside will be spearheaded by The Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness,” announced Laurie S. Moran, CCE, President, & CEO of the Chamber. “Approximately 135 students have participated in this hallmark program which provides leadership development to high school juniors and seniors. We believe the partnership with the CCECC will allow the program to reach more students in our community and continue to grow and foster their leadership potential.”

The CCECC is located at Averett University and focuses on being the regional hub for linking students and faculty with community partners to create distinct learning experiences and career opportunities, and to strengthen the social and economic vitality of our region.

“I could not be more excited to bring Junior Leadership Southside under the operation of the CCECC. It is an important program for our region, and aligns with our vision of providing distinct learning experiences for the region’s students,” expressed Alexis I. Ehrhardt, Executive Director of the CCECC. “I am grateful to the Leadership Southside class that launched this program and to the Chamber for its tremendous leadership. Junior Leadership Southside will be another way that Averett and the CCECC can serve the region. Through this program, we will continue to offer an engaging and intensive leadership experience for the students.”

Additional information, including program plans and application information, will be available in early 2016.
