Interested citizens who may be considering running for public office this year or in future years, or who have an interest in learning more about the election process, are encouraged to attend an upcoming workshop on “How to Run for Public Office.”

The workshop will be held on Friday, January 22, with the program beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County (308 Craghead Street, Suite 104, Danville). The workshop will conclude by 4 p.m.

The workshop will include information on the State Board of Elections with Peggy Petty, Danville Registrar; perspectives on civic engagement and the involved candidate from Jessie Barksdale, Chairman of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, and Mike Taylor, Pittsylvania County Sheriff; regional demographics and trends with Dr. Karl Stauber, CEO of Danville Regional Foundation; and the region and the candidate with Dr. Martha A. Walker of Virginia Cooperative Extension.

The workshop is being sponsored by the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce and the Virginia Cooperative Extension – Community Viability. Virginia Cooperative Extension programs are open to all regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, veteran status, national origin, disability, or political affiliation.
