Public Parks
Dan Daniel Memorial Park covers 150 acres along the Dan River. The park, located on Riverpoint Drive, just off of U.S. Highways 29 and 58, contains picnic grounds, a variety of hiking trails, bicycle trails, soccer and football fields, volleyball court and other facilities, including the home of the Danville Braves, farm club of the Atlanta Braves. Baseball fans can see games weekly June through August.
Ballou Park, located on West Main Street, features 107 acres of wooded grounds, lighted tennis courts, an athletic field, a one-mile nature trail, a 1.5 mile fitness trail, an amphitheater, picnic areas with ovens, horseshoe pits and the enchanted forest playground.
Chatham Town Park, located behind Town Hall, features shady picnic areas for family outings.
The Gretna Town Park has playground equipment, a volleyball court, walking trails and picnic shelters. Gretna’s Elba Park has baseball fields, picnic facilities and playground equipment.
Riverwalk Trail
With the ability to lure walkers, bikers, and moms with strollers through beautiful parks and natural areas, historic sites, and businesses, this trail along the Dan River links our past to our future. The 6 mile paved path is designed for use by walkers, bikers, roller-bladers, those with disabilities and others. From this path, connection may be made to woodland trails and facilities at Dan Daniel and Anglers Parks, the Carrington Pavilion, Danville's Science Center, as well as historic Downtown Danville.
