Chamber Awards Dinner Set for May 8
The spotlight will be on business, young entrepreneurs, young professionals, and education when the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce celebrates its 2017 Annual Awards Dinner on Monday, May 8, at 5:45 p.m. at the Institute for Advanced Learning & Research.
In recognition of the innovation and outstanding contributions made by organizations and businesses in our region, the Chamber will salute a variety of award winners from across the region in a festive and celebratory program. This year’s dinner will feature the Pinnacle Award winner, the Educator of the Year award winners, the Young Professionals PACE (Professional and Community Engagement) award winners, Leadership Southside graduates, and the participants in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!).
Special entertainment will be provided by local performance artist Angela Fowler who has appeared on stages throughout Danville, South Boston, Gretna, Caswell County, Washington DC, Philadelphia, and New York.
“This year’s dinner will highlight the creativity and innovation that will serve as the catalyst for the transformation of our region,” commented Chamber President Laurie S. Moran, CCE. “We have many great businesses, organizations, and people in our region. We look forward to spotlighting a few of them at our awards dinner.”
The Pinnacle Award will be presented to a business or organization whose outstanding achievements serve as a model for success. The recipient is distinguished as an influential business or organization that has made a strong local economic impact. The recipient’s leadership and dedication to a variety of interests contribute significantly to the socio-economic prosperity of the Danville-Pittsylvania County region. The recipient is also respected professionally and throughout the community for commitment to excellence and vision for future generations. The award winner is not announced until the dinner meeting.
The Young Professionals PACE (Professional and Community Engagement) awards will be presented to exceptional young professionals in the Danville-Pittsylvania County region. The awards will recognize up to five young professionals who have made significant contributions to our region through professional achievements as well as through community/volunteer service.
The Chamber will also recognize its annual Educators of the Year. Schools from Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Caswell County have selected individual school winners. In addition to saluting these outstanding educators, the Chamber will award three overall winners, who will receive a $2,500 cash prize to use for personal and/or professional development. The Educator of the Year awards are made possible through a teacher creativity grant from the Danville Regional Foundation.
Leadership Southside graduates will also be spotlighted at the dinner. Leadership Southside is an interactive and informative program that offers skill building, leadership development, and an introduction to Southside Virginia. The program is designed to identify and develop potential community leaders in order to build an alliance of the finest leaders for present and future leadership needs in the region. There are 18 graduates in this year’s class.
The Awards Dinner will also salute the students who are starting businesses in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!). These middle and high school students have worked the past eight months to brainstorm and form their enterprises, make pitches to potential investors, obtain funding, register their companies with governmental agencies, and actually launch their own company or social movement.
A reception will be held at 5:45 p.m. with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the Annual Awards Dinner are $35 each. Corporate table sponsorships are available for $400 and include eight tickets. Tickets should be purchased in advance from the Chamber office by Tuesday, May 2.
