The Board of Directors’ Executive Committee of the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Betty Jo Foster as Interim President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Chamber of Commerce, effective immediately. Foster will serve in this capacity while the Committee completes their search for a permanent President and CEO.

“My fellow directors and I are thrilled that Dr. Betty Jo Foster has agreed to help champion and lead the activities of our Chamber of Commerce,” said Bert Eades, chair of the board of directors. “Her leadership experience, ties to the community and collaborative approach combine to produce an effective and impactful ambassador for our Chamber and the region.”

Foster retired from Danville Community College (DCC) in 2004 after an impressive 36-year career and has worked as an Adjunct Professor since that time. Before her retirement, she served in many roles, including: Vice President of Academic and Student Services; Director of the Center for Business, Industry and Government; and Professor of Office Systems Technology.

“I look forward to aligning the interests of our business community, our legislative advocates, our workforce and education partners, and our community at large to further advance our region,” said Foster. “The Chamber has played such an integral role in our area’s economic development, sustainability and success, and my goal is to continue that legacy.”

Foster has become a sought-after workshop and seminar leader on various topics, some of which include professional customer service, time management and habits of successful people. She has been lauded for her leadership skills, having served in such positions as Interim President of Central Virginia Community College and Acting Director of Continuing Education at DCC.

Foster’s strong commitment to the community is evidenced by her service on a plethora of boards, including those for: the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (past member and chair of board of directors), Danville Regional Foundation (past member of board of directors), Danville Regional Medical Center (past member and chair of board of directors), Ringgold Recreation Inc. (past member of board of directors), Riverview Rotary Club (past member, president and assistant governor), United Way (past member of board of directors), Stratford House (board of directors) and Leadership Pittsylvania County (charter member).

Some of Foster’s accolades include being named Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year, Citizen of the Year (for Pittsylvania County), Woman of Distinction (for Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Council) and the winner of the Leadership Southside Excellence in Leadership Award.

Foster is an alumna of Radford University, Virginia Tech, and NOVA University where she received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees respectively.
