Danville and Pittsylvania County are celebrating Business Appreciation Week this week (May 11 –17, 2008).  Designated to recognize the contributions Virginia businesses make to the quality of life in our region, the salute is coordinated by the City of Danville’s Economic Development Office, Pittsylvania County Economic Development, and the Chamber.  To all of our businesses that make our region a better place in which to live and work, we say THANK YOU!

There are a limited number of seats still available at this year’s Annual Awards Dinner of the Chamber on Thursday, May 15, at 6 p.m. at the Institute for Advanced Learning & Research.  Tickets are $35 each (inclusive of Virginia sales tax) or $450 for a corporate table of eight.  If you need additional information or would like to order tickets, please contact the Chamber at 434.836.6990 as soon as possible or email the Chamber at chamber@dpchamber.org.

Team packages and sponsorships are limited for this year’s Chamber Classic Golf Tournament.  The golf outing will be held on Monday, June 2, at Danville Golf Club.  Tee times are 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.  The Chamber is also soliciting favors for all of the golfers, prizes, and volunteers to help with the tournament.  If you would like more information or to register, please contact Laurie Moran at the Chamber at 434-836-6990 or email lmoran@dpchamber.org.

Fred Wydner, Pittsylvania County Agriculture Development Director, will be the featured speaker for the Chamber’s Business at Breakfast on Wednesday, May 28, at Stratford Courtyard Conference Center.  A buffet breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the event will conclude by 8:30 a.m.  The cost is $15 for Chamber members and $20 for non-members.  Wydner will discuss the new agricultural complex which will house a conference hall, office complexes, a farmer’s market, and an indoor arena.  Make your reservation by calling 434-836-6990 or by emailing chamber@dpchamber.org.

The 2008 Shrimp Fest was sold out within 48 hours of tickets going on sale.  A waiting list has been started for this year’s event.  Tickets will be mailed out in approximately two weeks.  If you ordered tickets and discover that you do not need all of your tickets, please let the Chamber office know as we can connect you with someone on the waiting list.

Michael Hoseus, world renowned LEAN expert and best-selling author of “The Toyota Way,” will conduct a four-hour workshop on Friday, June 6, at DCC’s Regional Center for Advanced Technology & Training.  The workshop will be held from 1:30—5:30 p.m.  The cost is $50 for Chamber members (first registrant) and $35 for each additional registrant from the same company.  The cost for non-members is $60 for the first registrant and $45 for each additional registrant.  To register, call 434-797-6437.

Gary Jones, EPA Registered Energy Rater, will be at DCC’s Regional Center for Advanced Technology & Training on Monday, May 12, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss energy audits and their benefits.  The presentation is open to the public.
